Enrollment up in on-line courses

Online enrollment continues to increase rapidly at Title IV-funded institutions, a new Education Department report says, with just over 11 percent of degree-seeking undergraduates and 22 percent of graduate students in fall 2012 taking courses exclusively online.
About 74 and 70 percent of undergrads and graduate students, respectively, didn’t enroll in any distance education courses.
Arizona, West Virginia and Iowa educate the largest shares of online-only students, who numbered about 2.6 million students nationwide.

The Education Department is working on a regulation about how institutions should be authorized to teach students via distance education who are not located in the same state as the college or university.
