Jay Diskey, who runs the preK-12 division for the the Association of American Publishers association, told a recent webinar audience that the high volume is a welcome change from eight years of “drought,” including steep drops in sales of instructional materials in 2011 and 2012. Diskey’s remarks were first reported by Education Week.
Diskey attributed the gains to the improving economy, the need for new curricular materials aligned with the Common Core and an increased demand for assessments, driven in part by the introduction of teacher evaluation systems that require measurements of student academic gains over time. He also cited growing interest in early childhood education.
