National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference Supports CCSS
The National Hispanic
Christian Leadership Conference, which has 40,000 member churches and
represents 16 million Hispanic evangelicals, is throwing its support behind the
Common Core. And it’s not just a pro forma endorsement; the group calls the new
standards “a matter of biblical justice and equity.” It’s launching a national
campaign to mobilize pastors to promote the standards as the key to raising
academic achievement and setting clear goals for college and career readiness.
“For years, many states have set expectations too low for all our students, but
particularly those from low-income schools, where many Hispanic children are
educated,” said Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, the conference president.
