SC drops from Common Core

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley — to little surprise — has signed legislation repealing the Common Core standards, the South Carolina Department of Education confirmed today.
The bill would require the state to review the Common Core before Jan. 1, 2015, and implement a new set of standards by the 2015-16 school year.
Haley, long adamant about repealing the standards, signed the bill on May 30. The news was first reported by Education Week.

“Four years ago, [Superintendent] Mick Zais led the fight to end #CommonCore in #SouthCarolina,” the South Carolina Department of Education posted on Facebook on June 2. “He is pleased to announce that the battle is now over, and the Common Core is on the way out — new English and math standards will be in our schools beginning in August 2015.”
