Biden on STEM impact

The country hit its cap for H-1B visas within a few days, Biden noted.
“Imagine how transformative it would be if in the poor neighborhoods we were able to pluck out 280,000 individuals and put them on the path” to earning $80,000 per year, the average salary of an H-1B visa worker, Biden said. He noted his experience working with the program as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and said the fact that the country is not producing enough workers internally to fill the slots for H-1B visa workers indicates “something’s wrong with us.”
Biden also egged on the Change the Equation crowd’s work in STEM. He said business leaders don’t have any “overarching moral obligations” to push improvements to STEM education in their states, but that they “can get a hell of a lot done” by talking to governors  and working in their communities
